Our church-wide missions theme is “Nourishing Our Neighbors.” As Jesus Christ has called us all to follow, all are invited to take part in the many opportunities we have been given to Nourish our Neighbors in body and in spirit from our own backyard to across the globe!
Local Missions
Camp Alkulana
Camp Alkulana is a sleepaway Summer camp in the mountains of Virginia serving low-income / high-risk children and teens living in and around Richmond, VA. Teams from Derbyshire help prepare the camp property each Spring with general clean-up and maintenance, in addition to assisting with tangible and financial needs as they arise.
Caritas
Meeting the needs of Richmond’s unhoused community, CARITAS provides emergency shelter services, rehabilitation and rehousing programs, a furniture bank, and more. At Derbyshire we support the furniture bank with gently used furniture donations in addition to assisting with other tangible needs as they arise.
Church Hill Christian Wellness Center
The Wellness Center is a holistic ministry that exists to help adults and children in Richmond’s East End develop spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally, and socially. Derbyshire Sunday School classes annually fulfill children’s Christmas wish lists, in addition to assisting with other tangible and financial needs as they arise.
Derbyshire Community Garden
We share gardening space with our neighbors and deliver a weekly harvest of fresh produce to the Welborne Food Pantry.
Derbyshire Pumpkin Patch
We welcome our neighbors to a fun family experience by selling pumpkins throughout the month of October. The pumpkin patch provides funds to support our community garden.
Oregon Hill Baptist Center
The center serves Richmond’s unhoused neighbors with meals, haircuts, community events, counseling, referrals, and more. Teams from Derbyshire prepare and serve breakfast at the center several times a year, and groups assemble snack bags to be passed out during breakfast.
South Richmond Baptist Center
The center is a holistic ministry that exists to help adults and children in the Southside of Richmond with Bible studies, emergency food, a clothes closet, and more. Derbyshire supports the clothes closet and emergency food pantry with tangible donations.
Welborne Food Pantry
This local community food pantry just around the corner from our church provides households in Richmond’s West End with groceries every Monday evening from 5:00-6:30pm. Derbyshire supports this ministry with weekly donations of shelf-stable goods and fresh produce from the community garden, provides financial assistance, and sends a team to assist with grocery distribution the 4th Monday of each month.
Support Global Missions
Amani Sasa
This ministry offers holistic, trauma-informed support for refugees living in Kampala, Uganda. Derbyshire’s global mission emphasis will highlight the work of this exciting ministry, with a focus on raising money to support pregnant women with food, pre- and post-natal care, and other essential resources.
Rise Against Hunger
Derbyshire hosts a meal packing event the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year, during which we pack 20,000+ meals in about 2 hours! Rise Against Hunger is a growing global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives, and responding to emergencies. All ages are welcome; there is a task for everyone!
