Welcome To Derbyshire Baptist Church
Sunday School For All Ages • Sunday at 9:15 am
Worship Service • Sunday at 10:30 am
Derbyshire Baptist Church is a warm family of faith in Richmond’s thriving West End. Driven by Jesus's commandment to love God and love others, our mission focus is Nourishing our Neighbors: seeking out ways to meet the physical and spiritual needs of our community. We believe that God calls each of us to be part of this mission and equips us for the task.
Every Sunday morning as we join together, we praise God who created us, seek out encounters with the Holy Spirit, and search scripture to discern how to follow Jesus more closely in our daily lives. We invite you to experience our community of faith for yourself as we fellowship, worship, and serve together. You can check out our YouTube page to get a feel for our worship services.
If you are looking for a place where you can be cared for, a place where you can serve, a place where you can make a difference, we hope you will connect with the Derbyshire Family.
What To Expect
Our worship services involve a sermon, prayer, scripture, music, and giving. We believe worship is to be pleasing to God. Sometimes our worship challenges us, while at other times, it uplifts and encourages us. Sermon messages are designed to give us tools for applying our faith to our daily lives when we leave the building.
Each Sunday gathering blends Biblical teaching and worship music that includes traditional hymns and some modern pieces. Together, we ask and wrestle with spiritual questions. There is no cookie-cutter formula for our members - we are made up of people with all kinds of stories, backgrounds, and interests. We would love to hear yours, as well!
We offer bus pick-up services at Lakewood. Pick-up times are 8:50AM for Sunday School and 10:00 for the Worship Service.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Derbyshire distinct?
The best way to describe DBC is “authentic.” We like to call it the “Derbyshire Difference,” and we think you’ll feel our hospitality the minute you walk through the doors. You will be greeted with a welcoming smile, and we will connect you with a small group or class where you will feel at home.
Are there opportunities for all ages?
Yes! We have active children and youth ministries that provide safe and loving opportunities for spiritual growth and friendship. And adults of all ages can find opportunities for spiritual growth, service, and fellowship - not just on Sundays but throughout the week.
What can I expect in worship?
Our worship blends Biblical teaching and inspirational music that features our Chancel Choir, organ, and piano. We sing from hymnals, and lay leaders often participate in the service. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month. Generally, the service lasts about an hour.
When should I arrive for Sunday worship services?
Worship starts promptly at 10:30 am, but if you arrive a few minutes late, it’s okay! Our greeters can help you find a seat.
What can I expect in Sunday School?
Sunday School is a great way to connect! Stop by the welcome center for coffee and donuts on your way in, and then head to your classroom at 9:15 am. Some classes are age-specific, while others are intergenerational. Try out a few until you find the one that is right for you.
Where should I park?
We have a large parking lot with dedicated parking spaces for guests, families with small children, and those with disabilities.
What should I wear?
You will see some people in suits and dresses and others dressed more casually. Typically, men wear ties, golf shirts, or sweaters with slacks. Some women wear dresses while others prefer slacks. Come as you are comfortable!
Is transportation provided?
We currently provide transportation to and from Lakewood on Sunday mornings and for special events. The Sunday school shuttle departs Lakewood at 8:50, and the worship shuttle departs at 10:00.
