Rev. Alice Cates Clarke

Associate Pastor of Youth and Community Engagement • acatesclarke@dbcrichmond.org

Rev. Alice Cates Clarke serves as the Associate Pastor for Youth and Community Engagement and loves the different hats she gets to wear with each ministry. Her deepest joy as a minister comes from nurturing in others the genuine belief that they are fully loved just as they are, just because they are, without conditions or disclaimers. And the second is like it- that in working to realize our own value and worth we will see and cherish the value and worth of others also and be compelled to love and serve freely and without conditions or disclaimers.

Alice loves the wild and crazy stories of our foremothers and forefathers in scripture and gets a kick out of peeling back the literary formalities to reveal the humanity and inherent relatability within them. She believes that God is very much still speaking, still creating, still revealing, and is incredibly still inviting wild and crazy us to be a part of it all.

A graduate of Campbell University (Bachelor of Arts, 2002), Virginia Commonwealth University (Master of Social Work, 2008), and the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (Master of Divinity, 2010), Alice was ordained to Christian ministry in 2010. She is the mom of two really cool kids, Addy and Cedar, and is married to Daniel (who is also really cool).
